Our Mission & Vision

We speak for the arts.

Our purpose

Broadening the arts for everyone in Richmond

The Community Arts Council of Richmond exists to provide and broaden opportunities for citizens of all ages to take part in, learn from and benefit from the arts in all their forms, in a way that is inclusive and representative.

We sponsor public exhibitions, performances, classes, workshops and special programs, and we are always searching for new ways to help art and culture grow across the City of Richmond.

Our mandate

What we set out to do

The purposes of the society, as set out in its constitution, are to:

1

Deliver comprehensive programs and a service system for the society's members and the community as a whole.

2

Develop balanced, diverse, quality programs in the arts for its members.

3

Foster community leadership through programs of leadership training and education.

4

Encourage co-operation among private and public agencies, organizations, member groups, clubs and affiliates in delivering programs.

5

Promote public understanding of current issues in the arts through effective advocacy and resource services.

6

Make the funding needs of our members known to the governments of Richmond, British Columbia and Canada, and apply for adequate funding to sustain the arts.

Our impact

What we've achieved together

Over more than five decades, the council and its members have:

  • Raised major funds toward capital projects such as the Gateway Theatre and the Richmond Cultural Centre.
  • Contributed to every art discipline through grants, scholarships and event sponsorship.
  • Organized and hosted classes and workshops across the city.
  • Supported other arts and culture organizations with financial and practical help.
  • Provided gallery space for member artists to exhibit and sell their work at low cost.
  • Produced countless exhibitions and shows.
  • Partnered with other arts and culture groups, sharing our expertise and experience.
  • Supported programs that give underserved youth the chance to explore the arts.
